How I Spent My Weekend: Friday

What do you usually do on Fridays when you’re not working?

For me, spending an entire week indoors isn’t unusual. I’m quite used to it, although sometimes it can get a little boring. So when my sister suggested that we spend the rest of Friday outdoors, I decided to go along with her plan.

Little did I know the day would involve Ethiopian food, a chocolate craving, and a forgotten batch of mahamri dough waiting for me at home.

I spent the morning indulging in Chinese short dramas on YouTube until around noon when my sister called and told me to start getting ready before she arrived.

Once we left the house, our first stop was to take the car for servicing and a car wash. It was an errand she needed to get done before we could properly hang out. We ended up spending most of the afternoon there and didn’t leave until around 5:30 p.m. By then, I was bored, hungry, and looking forward to the one thing I had been waiting for all day—trying Ethiopian cuisine.

It was my first time trying Ethiopian food, while my sister had been there before and was craving it. Since I had no idea what to order, she chose the food for us. For drinks, I ordered Guaraná, while she went for a fresh pineapple and passion juice cocktail. I took a sip of hers, and it was really good.

As we enjoyed our drinks, the food arrived. Trust me, it looked like a lot of food for two girls who barely eat. Well, that’s not entirely true—I definitely eat more than my sister!

Everything was amazing except for the injera. It wasn’t bad, but it was a little too sour for my liking.

After finishing our meal, we packed up the leftovers and stayed a little longer because the traffic wasn’t looking great. About thirty minutes later, we finally left.

On our way home, I asked my sister to stop at the mall because I was craving chocolate. We walked around for a bit, bought what I wanted, and then headed home.

The moment we got back, my sister disappeared straight into her room. As for me, while putting the leftover food into the fridge, I spotted something sitting on the kitchen counter.

My mahamri dough.

I sighed.

Before leaving the house that afternoon, I had prepared the dough and left it covered to rise. In all the excitement of going out, I completely forgot about it.

So before I could finally go to bed, I had to roll it out, cut it, and fry batch after batch until I was done.

It wasn’t exactly how I imagined ending my day, but all in all, it was a really nice Friday.

Between trying Ethiopian cuisine for the first time, satisfying a chocolate craving, and rescuing my forgotten mahamri dough, the day turned out much better than I expected.

And that was how I spent my Friday.

Next up: how I spent my Saturday.
